How we went from our early 'dream book' days when we just wanted to work together doing something we loved, to a cookbook, a YouTube show and sharing our 'healthy living is possible' message with whoever will listen!

Big rigs, drums, and a million dreams...


We remember THE moment we met; at work, in the diesel-fuel smelling office. We knew it was destined to be more than an innocent employee - boss relationship.  Oops! (can you guess who the boss was and who the employee was?)

 

Spending our days working at a truck dealership to filling our 'dream book' at the local pub on Friday nights, to playing drums whenever possible (Marks) and learning the ropes as a groupie tag along (Nat).  

 

Oh, but those days were fun riding around in the jeep with the roof off.

 

We always knew we wanted to do something different when we grew up but never knew the 'what'. Fast forward 15 years and the 'what' found us. 

 

Marks' passion for cooking, Nat's passion for all-things business and both their passions for eating and living a healthy life and things started to click.

After starting side hustle after side hustle, I realized that I kept trying to build the wrong business.

 

Going from "let's give this entrepreneurial thing 1 more try" to the co-author of a cookbook and host of our own YouTube show in 6 weeks, followed quickly by the purchase of a cafe, the never-quit mantra I teach my students has boomeranged and hit its mark.

 

As long as I can remember, I've always wanted to run my own business, but I never knew what I wanted that business to be. I also quietly dreamed of losing 10lbs for most of my adult life, which quickly turned to 20lbs after our kids were born. Hmmm...should I combine the two?

As a notorious 'healthy' eater, I was continuously stumped about why I couldn't seem to shed my pesky pounds. I was doing all the right things...or so I thought.

 

Today, as a Certified Nutrition Coach and 20+lbs lighter, I know exactly what I was doing wrong. EVERYTHING!

 

And now I get to share the HOW with you and help you achieve your healthy living and weight-loss goals too. 

 

As an award-nominated adult educator, I help students unpack their health and weight-loss goals and tackle them one by one in achievable bites. Known for simplifying and step-by-stepping complicated strategies, I take healthy living and weight-loss back to basics and work on building the right foundation. One that doesn't rely on willpower or crazy restrictions!

 

Accountability and changing mindsets are kinda my 'thang', so when you lose your weight, you'll learn how to keep it off for life. 

 

As mama to a teenager and a tween, wife to THE hunkiest guy in town, co-author of Fitter @ 50 cookbook, nutrition & weight-loss coach, poo picker upper and daily dog walker to my sweet Nickel, my core belief hasn't changed. 

 

"You are capable of achieving amazing results when given the right tools, guidance and accountability."

 

Oh, did I mention I adore speaking? On stage, in front of the camera, or on my soap box, sharing my 'Mediocrity is for Suckers' message, is where I love to be!


About Marks


I was exceptionally lucky, from the age of 8, to know exactly what I wanted to do when I grew up. I wanted to play drums.

 

I pursued music at university, went to college in Toronto and graduated from a percussion program. When I got my first paying gig, I thought I had MADE IT! After accomplishing my top music goals and studying with some of my drum idols, I realized that playing drums was my passion but I wasn't making enough money to support the family I one day wanted. 

 

My 11+ year music career ended when I came home for my sister's wedding and decided to move back home.

I learned to cook from an early age and have always loved spending time in the kitchen experimenting and trying new recipes. I've always been quite a healthy eater but, like Nat, I could have stood to lose 10lbs in my adult years, which quickly turned into 20 pounds after our kids arrived.

 

Then my love for cycling was re-ignited and I started training for a HUGE goal that was most definitely out of my reach when I started. In order to go faster on my bike, I knew I had to drop some weight. I cleaned up my nutrition, trained like a maniac and dropped my weight. After I achieved the goal I set out to achieve, I thought to myself "now what".

 

Thankfully, Nat was going through her Nutrition Certification at the time, and she became my personal coach. After all that effort, I didn't want to put my weight back on!  As I turned 50, a friend of mine said to me how great it must feel to be fitter going into my 50's than I was in my 40's. And this Fitter @ 50 mantra kinda stuck.   

 

Today, I'm honoured to be sharing my passion for food, my experience in the kitchen AND the recipes in my little black book. We created a cookbook named Fitter @ 50, so you can eat the same delicious foods we do and get the results we did.  Healthy eating and weight-loss doesn't have to be complicated if you know the basics. Which I didn't!  

 

Having adopted the basic weight-loss behaviors and dropped 20+lbs, the biggest change I notice (other than my loose waistbands) is my mindset when it comes to eating and that it really doesn't have to take a bunch of effort to maintain my weight and my healthy lifestyle. Even as I turn 50, I'm still learning and may that never change.

If I hear one more weight-loss or nutrition coach say "you just have to cut out all the foods you love (aka sugar and carbs) and you'll lose weight", I might just lose my mind.

And that's where we're going to start. We're going to start where you are.
